Tumbarumba via Elliott Way - Khancoban

One of the best day trips is the route through the mountains from Tumbarumba to Khancoban via Cabramurra. The views are impressive and you will get a very good look at the Snowy Mountains Scheme. From Tumbarumba take the Tooma Road south to the Elliott Way, which takes you through part of Maragle State Forest and stands of magnificent Mountain Ash.

The road climbs steeply down to the Tumut River valley, giving tantalizing glimpses of Talbingo Reservoir, until it reaches O'Hare's Rest Area. From here you will cross the river 5 times before
the steep climb up to Cabramurra.
